Our Story

How a passion for art, architecture and honest hospitality became Edinburgh’s most personal five-star stay.
The House

A Georgian townhouse
Considered

We believe hospitality lives in the quiet details — the functional suite, the warmth of a welcome drink, a fresh flower by the bath.

Crescent House occupies a listed Georgian townhouse on one of Edinburgh’s finest New Town crescents. Built in the early 19th century as part of the city’s ambitious northern expansion, the building bears all the hallmarks of its era: soaring ceilings, elaborate plasterwork, marble fireplaces and generous proportions that few modern buildings can match.

When Michael and Paul first opened the doors in 2018, their ambition was simple but uncompromising: to create the kind of stay they themselves wanted to find — unhurried, beautifully considered, and deeply personal. Not a hotel. Not a standard B&B. Something quieter and more generous than both.

Every surface has been thoughtfully restored or reimagined. Original cornicing and ceiling roses were painstakingly repaired; pale oak engineered floors added; fireplaces were made working again. Into this canvas came a private art collection — a rotating gallery of contemporary Scottish painting and sculpture that transforms the house into a living exhibition.

The result is a place where period grandeur meets considered modern comfort. Where a crystal chandelier hangs above a Bang & Olufsen speaker. Where a classical bust sits beside a vibrant abstract canvas. It is a house of contrasts, held together by taste.

Our Philosophy

Hospitality as
an art form

We believe that where you stay should do more than shelter you — it should move you. Not through excess, but through intention. The warmth of a genuine welcome at the door. A painting that makes you pause on the stairs.

With just three suites, Crescent House is intimate by design. We know your name before you arrive. We know what you like for breakfast by the second morning. We remember why you came, and we quietly make sure your stay exceeds what you imagined.

This is not a faceless stay. It is our home, opened to you.
